Turn AI research into a ready-to-send newsletter draft—automatically
This n8n workflow runs on a weekly schedule to research AI adoption topics with Tavily, uses OpenRouter (GPT-5 and GPT-5-mini) to plan and write three source-cited newsletter sections, then compiles everything into an email-ready HTML newsletter and saves it as a Gmail draft.
What this workflow does
- Weekly scheduled research: A schedule trigger runs the workflow on your chosen cadence.
- Topic discovery with Tavily: Tavily fetches up to three recent news results for your configured newsletter theme.
- Newsletter planning with OpenRouter: An OpenRouter chat model generates a newsletter title and exactly three short topics from the initial research.
- Section drafting with citations: Each topic is researched again in Tavily, then an OpenRouter-powered writing agent produces one standalone section per topic, with sources/citations included.
- HTML newsletter assembly: An OpenRouter editor agent consolidates the three sections into a single HTML newsletter that includes a subject line, introduction, consolidated sources list, and a conclusion.
- Gmail draft creation: The workflow creates a Gmail draft addressed to your configured recipient, using the generated subject and HTML body.
Use cases
- SaaS operators who want a consistent “AI adoption” newsletter without manual research.
- Automation engineers building repeatable content pipelines with Tavily + OpenRouter.
- Teams that rely on weekly updates and want drafts saved directly in Gmail for quick review.
Technical details
- Triggers & flow control: Schedule trigger, split out, aggregate, and utility nodes (e.g., sticky note).
-
AI agents:
n8n-nodes-langchainagentfor the planning, section-writing, and editing steps. - Integrations: Tavily for research (two Tavily-connected steps) and OpenRouter for GPT-5 / GPT-5-mini chat models.
- Email output: Gmail OAuth2 to save the generated newsletter as a draft.
Setup requirements: add Tavily credentials, add an OpenRouter API credential for the planning/writing/editing agents, provide Gmail OAuth2, set the draft recipient email, update the initial Tavily query to your newsletter theme, and adjust the schedule interval to your preferred weekly cadence.
