Get an hourly Slack digest from your RSS feeds—while automatically logging new items to Google Sheets
This n8n workflow monitors RSS/Atom feeds (or even auto-discovered website feeds) using Apify, records newly found items and any feed-read errors into Google Sheets, and sends a single Slack digest with up to 15 new items per run.
What this workflow does
- Runs every hour on a schedule to keep monitoring current content.
- Loads your feed/site URLs along with optional include/exclude keywords and a stateName to track what has already been seen.
- Uses the Apify actor “RSS Feed Monitor: New Items + Full-Text Markdown” to fetch only new feed items since the last run and to return any feed-read errors.
- Normalizes results into a consistent structure—one record per new item or per feed error (including fields like title, link, timestamps, and summary).
- Appends all records (items + errors) to a Google Sheets tab named “Feed log” to maintain a historical archive.
- Builds one Slack digest summarizing up to 15 new items and listing feeds that failed, then posts it to your selected Slack channel.
Use cases
- SaaS operators tracking product announcements and release notes across multiple RSS feeds.
- Automation engineers creating lightweight monitoring for news, blogs, changelogs, or documentation updates.
- Teams that want an audit trail of discovered content (and visibility into feed issues) in Google Sheets, plus a daily/near-real-time alert in Slack.
Technical details
- Apify: Requires an Apify API token credential in n8n and runs actor pewterdesk~rss-feed-monitor-full-text.
- Google Sheets: OAuth connection; write to the Feed log tab.
- Slack: OAuth connection; post the digest to your target channel.
- n8n nodes/workflow: set, code, slack, sticky note, google sheets, and Apify (apify-nodes-apify).
