Find unprotected n8n workflows—then get a weekly Slack digest
This n8n workflow audits your active, published workflows every Monday morning to detect which ones are missing an Error Trigger error handler, and it posts a Slack message with clickable links to the affected workflows.
What this workflow does
- Runs weekly: scheduled for every Monday at 08:00 (or can be started manually).
- Pulls published workflows via the n8n API using read-only access.
- Filters safely by excluding archived workflows, workflows that already include an Error Trigger (error-handler workflows), plus anything skipped via excludedTags or excludedWorkflowIds.
- Flags risky workflows by keeping only workflows that have no error workflow configured in their n8n settings.
- Sends a Slack digest in the selected channel only when at least one unprotected workflow is found—including a summary count and mrkdwn links to each workflow.
Use cases
- SaaS operators who want proactive reliability checks before incidents happen.
- Automation engineers auditing changes after new workflows are deployed to ensure error handling is consistent.
- Teams scaling n8n that need a simple weekly review process to prevent “silent failures.”
Technical details
- n8n API read access using an API key with workflow:read scope.
- Slack OAuth credential for posting the digest to a chosen channel.
- Builds the message with Slack mrkdwn and uses configurable n8nBaseUrl so links point to the correct workflows.
- Uses nodes/logic including if, set, code, no op, and slack to filter, format, and notify.
