Automate n8n Workflows Backup to Google Drive Seamlessly
Effortlessly safeguard your n8n workflows by automating backups directly to Google Drive. This solution leverages an undocumented REST API to ensure your data is always preserved, albeit temporarily. While the process is straightforward, it comes with caveats, such as issues with versioning that result in multiple copies, potentially leading to rapid folder bloating. However, this is a critical step in ensuring that your workflows are securely backed up.
What this workflow does:
- Schedules regular backup operations using the cron node to suit your preferred timetable.
- Utilizes the function and merge nodes to prepare your workflow data for transfer.
- Sends the prepared data via HTTP request to the Google Drive API endpoint.
- Stores the workflows securely in Google Drive, creating multiple copies due to the current versioning limitations.
Use cases:
- Data Recovery: Ensure you have a fallback of your workflows in case of accidental data loss or workflow corruption.
- SaaS Management: SaaS operators can leverage a straightforward backup strategy to maintain workflow integrity across updates and tests.
- Automation Engineers: Ideal for those responsible for maintaining large n8n workflows, offering a failsafe against workflow disruptions.
Technical details:
- Nodes Utilized: cron, merge, function, Google Drive, HTTP request, function item
- Integration: Google Drive API via HTTP request
- Important Note: This workflow currently does not support versioning, leading to the creation of multiple workflow copies in Google Drive. An update is planned once versioning is feasible.
