Fetch YouTube channel banner & avatar URLs in n8n—instantly
This n8n workflow looks up a public YouTube channel (handle, channel link, or video watch link) and retrieves the available banner and profile image URLs from YouTubeThumb.com—optionally downloading the largest banner as a JPG.
What this workflow does
Designed for quick, reliable enrichment of YouTube metadata, the workflow:
- Runs manually (click Test workflow) and sets the target YouTube URL or @handle.
- Calls the YouTubeThumb.com channel-images endpoint to retrieve channel banner and avatar image options.
- Checks whether the lookup succeeded and returns an error message if it fails.
- Selects the largest banner and largest avatar by image area, while also outputting the full lists of available banners and avatars.
- If a banner URL is available, downloads the largest banner JPG via YouTubeThumb.com’s channel-image-file proxy. If the channel has no header art, the download step is intentionally skipped.
Use cases
- Populate CRM or internal databases with the correct YouTube channel banner and avatar URLs.
- Build a dashboard in n8n that enriches creators/brands with up-to-date channel visuals.
- Feed channel artwork into your SaaS UI by selecting the highest-resolution images automatically.
- Run a lightweight validation step for YouTube links before storing them or using them in downstream automation.
Technical details
- Nodes used: Manual Trigger, Set, If, Code, Sticky Note, HTTP Request.
- External service: YouTubeThumb.com (no API key or login required for the lookup).
- Requires outbound HTTPS access to youtubethumb.com.
Set your channel input in the Set YouTube URL node, run the workflow, and review the Code node output for the banner/avatar URL lists (and the downloaded JPG when available).
