Find the YouTube “outlier” videos your competitors are getting—then brief your next content plan
This n8n workflow automatically scans competitor YouTube channels with Bright Data, detects videos that outperform each channel’s baseline, analyzes their hook + structure using OpenAI (GPT-5.6), logs results to Google Sheets, and sends a ranked digest with a brief to Slack—on a weekly schedule.
What this workflow does
- Weekly discovery: Runs on a scheduled basis and loads competitor channel URLs plus scan settings.
- Bright Data scrape & polling: Triggers a Bright Data YouTube discovery dataset scrape and polls snapshot status until results are ready.
- Outlier detection: Downloads scraped video data, calculates views-per-day, and flags outlier videos by comparing each video to its channel’s own median baseline (handling Shorts separately).
- Cooldown filtering: Reads prior results from Google Sheets and avoids re-briefing videos inside a configurable cooldown window, then selects the top outliers up to the per-run limit.
- OpenAI structural analysis: Uses OpenAI (GPT-5.6) to extract hook type, promise, and topics from each outlier’s transcript opening and chapter titles, then generates a short cross-video content brief.
- Reporting: Appends one row per outlier to the “Outliers” sheet tab and posts a formatted ranked digest (including the brief) to your configured Slack channel.
Use cases
- Competitor YouTube benchmarking for SaaS marketing and content teams.
- Weekly video ideation: identify proven hook patterns before you script.
- Automation engineers maintaining an SEO/content intelligence pipeline in n8n.
