Turn Google Maps search results into a reviewable Google Sheets register (with evidence)
This Apify + n8n workflow creates a structured, evidence-backed list of businesses from a Google Maps search and delivers it to Google Sheets as a current review register—including phone numbers, website link checks, and clear markers when manual verification is required.
What this workflow does
- Runs one bounded Apify collection that provides source records plus `coverage` and `billing` evidence.
- Checks the complete dataset before writing anything to Google Sheets, so the sheet reflects what was actually observed in the declared window.
- Upserts using stable source keys: previously seen rows are updated on repeat runs, while earlier unobserved rows remain—so your Sheet stays a review register, not a full historical archive.
- Distinguishes source windows: COMPLETE reflects the declared source window; CAPPED is kept as a labelled sample.
- Handles failures safely: source failures stop delivery; verified empty results produce no data rows.
- Separates contact evidence from website fetch results. If a website check is uncertain or fails, the row is marked MANUALLY_VERIFY_WEBSITE—it never becomes proof that a business needs a new site.
- Applies intent-aware labeling: NO_SUPPORTED_WEBSITE_PITCH indicates the source does not support that offer. Public phone availability does not establish permission to contact.
Use cases
- Local agencies compiling Google Maps-based prospect lists for outbound review.
- SaaS operators maintaining a Google Sheets evidence register for auditability and human QA.
- Automation engineers building repeatable workflows that stop on source failures and flag uncertain website checks for manual review.
Technical details
- Apify run supplies evidence and records (bounded execution).
- Uses n8n nodes including: if, set, code, wait, and HTTP Request.
- Requires your own Apify account and a Header Auth credential on all five HTTP nodes.
- Connects Google Sheets OAuth2 to Upsert review register data.
- Creates the supplied tab using the exact CSV header from the workflow’s provided sheet-header template.
- Enter the spreadsheet ID in R.
