This n8n workflow automates HR onboarding and offboarding by reacting to HRIS webhook events, logging cases in Postgres, coordinating with Slack and Jira, provisioning Google Workspace accounts, and creating onboarding pages in Notion—all with manager approval via Gmail.

What this workflow does

• Receives onboarding webhooks from your HRIS and validates the incoming payload. It generates a department-specific onboarding checklist and a work email address.
• If the payload is invalid, it posts an alert to your Slack People Ops channel and stops the process.
• If the payload is valid, it creates or updates an onboarding case in Postgres, notifies People Ops in Slack, logs the case in a Google Sheets tracker, and creates a Jira IT provisioning task.
• Waits until the configured lead time before the employee’s start date, then provisions the user by creating a Google Workspace account via the Google Admin Directory API and creates a Notion onboarding page.
• Sends the manager an approval message in Gmail with approve/reject links. The workflow then updates the Postgres case status based on the decision.
• If approved, it emails the new hire a day-1 checklist and posts an “onboarding ready” confirmation in Slack. If rejected, it posts a rejection notice in Slack.
• For offboarding, it receives termination events via HRIS webhook, builds an offboarding checklist, and suspends the user (per the workflow’s offboarding step).
