Irrigation incidents triaged automatically—weather-enriched severity, AI-generated remediation, and instant Slack alerts
This n8n workflow receives irrigation telemetry via webhook, enriches it with hyperlocal conditions from Open-Meteo, then uses Google Gemini (Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite) to classify incident severity and produce actionable work-order steps. Finally, it posts a formatted incident alert to Slack and returns a structured ticket response to the caller.
What this workflow does
- Ingests telemetry through an HTTP POST webhook (zone, moisture, pump state, last run time, and coordinates).
- Normalizes and fills missing sensor fields with defaults, then queries Open-Meteo for recent and forecast precipitation and temperature using the provided location.
- Creates an AI incident assessment by combining sensor + weather context into a prompt for Google Gemini, producing structured output including severity, title, root cause, SLA, action items, and an escalation flag.
- Parses and augments the result by normalizing severity/SLA values and generating a unique ticket ID with timestamps and the original telemetry context.
- Routes by severity (CRITICAL, HIGH, ADVISORY, NORMAL) to set dispatch channel, audience, urgency, and work order status.
- Posts a work-order style alert to Slack, including the SLA deadline.
- Responds back to the webhook with the final structured ticket payload and processing status.
Use cases
- Detecting irrigation anomalies (e.g., low moisture with unexpected weather) and escalating to the right team via Slack.
- Generating consistent remediation playbooks using Gemini based on real telemetry + forecast precipitation.
- Building an audit-friendly, structured incident ticket for automation engineers and SaaS operators running irrigation monitoring.
Technical details
- Integrations/nodes: Webhook, Set, Code, Switch, Sticky Note, Slack
- Weather enrichment: Open-Meteo API (precipitation + temperature; recent + forecast)
- AI classification & remediation: Google Gemini (Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite; requires a Gemini (PaLM) API credential)
SEO note: ideal for n8n workflow automation focused on irrigation incident triage, AI-driven severity assessment, and Slack-based incident management.
