Track the full Google SERP every day—automatically
This n8n workflow monitors Google organic search results for your target keywords and location, pulls the full top-100 (paged), compares it to the last snapshot saved in Google Sheets, and logs URL-by-URL rank changes with a clear per-keyword digest.
What this workflow does
- Runs daily at 08:00 via a schedule trigger.
- Loads your comma-separated keywords and the chosen Google location, then reads the most recent SERP snapshot from Google Sheets history.
- Expands each keyword into paged requests to fetch up to 100 organic results per keyword using SearchApi.io.
- Builds a current SERP snapshot including absolute ranks, and compares each URL to the prior run to label movement as baseline/new/up/down/same/dropped.
- Generates a human-readable per-keyword digest highlighting new entrants, dropouts, and biggest climbers/decliners.
- Appends results to Google Sheets: both the full snapshot rows and the change summary for ongoing SEO tracking.
Use cases
- SaaS operators tracking keyword-level SEO performance by location and monitoring rank volatility.
- SEO automation engineers building reporting pipelines for technical SEO dashboards.
- Marketing teams identifying newly ranking pages and monitoring major drops without manual SERP checks.
Technical details
- n8n nodes/workflow steps: set, code, sticky note, Google Sheets, schedule trigger, and SearchApi.
- Search integration via the community node: @searchapi/n8n-nodes-searchapi.
- Google Sheets integration uses OAuth for both:
- Read step (history / latest snapshot)
- Append step (new snapshot rows)
- Expected header columns in the sheet: run_id, date, keyword, position, url, domain, title, previous_position, change, movement.
- You can update the keyword list, location, and optionally adjust PAGES in the paging logic to control depth.
