n8n Airtable + OpenAI Newsletter Automation: Kit Drafts

Automatically generate a fully written, cited newsletter draft from Airtable—using OpenAI, images from Replicate, and publishing via Kit

This n8n workflow pulls a single “Ready” newsletter topic from Airtable every six days, researches and writes five HTML sections with inline citations using OpenAI, generates matching images with Replicate, hosts them on Cloudinary, and creates an unscheduled (optionally scheduled) broadcast draft in Kit.

What this workflow does

• Runs on a 6-day schedule: loads configuration values, selects one Airtable record marked Ready with a newsletter topic, and confirms it has no existing Broadcast ID.
• Prevents duplicate processing: validates the record and updates Airtable status to In progress.
• Research + writing with citations: uses Tavily to research the main topic, then uses your configured OpenAI model to produce a newsletter title and exactly five distinct section topics.
• Builds five cited HTML sections: for each section, Tavily collects sources and OpenAI agents produce an HTML section with inline citations plus a structured illustration prompt.
• Generates and hosts images: creates the images via Replicate, polls until completion if needed, then stores results on Cloudinary and associates each image with its section.
• Creates a Kit draft broadcast: assembles the five illustrated sections into a plain HTML email, generates subject and preview text, and creates an unscheduled Kit draft targeting the Airtable-defined tag audience.
• Writes back to Airtable: records the Kit Broadcast ID as Draft, and if scheduling is enabled, schedules the broadcast and updates Airtable to Scheduled.
