Get instant Telegram alerts when your n8n workflows fail
This n8n workflow uses an Error Trigger to automatically detect failures in other workflows and send a clear, HTML-formatted Telegram alert to your chat—so you can respond fast instead of checking logs.
What this workflow does
- Listens for workflow failures: It triggers when another n8n workflow is set to use this one as its Error workflow and that workflow fails.
- Reads your Telegram chat ID: It loads your configured Telegram chat ID from a workflow setting value.
- Builds a concise failure message: It formats an HTML alert that includes the `workflow name`, the failing step or trigger error, the error message, and an execution link when available.
- Sends the alert to Telegram: It sends the message via the Telegram node using your bot, with HTML parsing enabled and link previews disabled.
Use cases
- SaaS operations: Notify your team immediately if a critical automation workflow fails and blocks data sync.
- Automation engineers: Catch errors in upstream workflows (ETL, webhooks, scheduled jobs) and jump directly to the failed execution.
- Self-hosted n8n reliability: Keep oversight of workflow health without manually reviewing the n8n UI.
Technical details
- n8n nodes used: Error Trigger, Set, Code, Telegram, Sticky Note
- Telegram requirements: A Telegram bot token (from @BotFather) and your Telegram chat ID
- Compatibility: Works with n8n 1.x or 2.x (self-hosted or Cloud)
- Customization: Update the alert wording or add fields in the “Build alert” (code/message building) step.
Setup at a glance
- Create a Telegram bot via @BotFather and add its token as a Telegram credential in n8n.
- Find your Telegram chat ID and paste it into the workflow’s Telegram chat ID setting.
- In each monitored workflow, set this workflow as the Error workflow in n8n.
