n8n Job Search Auto-Scoring: CV & Cover Letters with OpenAI

Auto-score every job posting against your CV—then draft a tailored cover letter in Gmail

This n8n workflow reads your job board feed every morning, scores each role against your master CV, and—when it’s a strong match—generates a fit score, tailored summary, and a cover letter draft using OpenAI. Every posting is tracked in your sheet with the reason it was accepted or skipped.

What this workflow does

• Runs automatically via a morning schedule trigger—so you don’t have to manually check the board.
• Loads your job-search settings and checks your tracker sheet for postings you’ve already seen.
• Pulls your master CV from a Google Doc (loaded once per run).
• Consumes the job board RSS feed, then filters out anything already processed, plus anything rejected by your exclude and seniority rules. Posts past the daily cap are deferred to the next run.
• Sends each remaining posting to OpenAI with your CV to return:
  • a fit score
  • three matched strengths
  • one honest gap
  • a tailored summary
  • a cover letter drafted from your CV
• Records results for every posting in the tracker sheet, including those below your threshold and any AI failures.
• For postings that clear the bar:
  • saves the tailored summary to Google Drive
  • creates a Gmail draft with the cover letter (it never sends automatically)
