n8n Lab Results Routing: Slack, Gmail, Twilio Alerts

Automatically route lab results to the right doctor—by severity—with Slack, Gmail, and Twilio alerts

This n8n workflow receives lab results, classifies them using thresholds you control in Google Sheets, and notifies the ordering physician appropriately. Critical values trigger immediate Slack and SMS alerts with acknowledgment tracking and automatic escalation—while abnormal results are emailed and every outcome is logged for audit.

What this workflow does

• Ingests lab results via an HTTP webhook (or, if you prefer, fetches results from an LIS endpoint on a schedule).
• Loads configuration from Google Sheets: test limits, doctor contact details, and prior notification history from tabs named Limits, Doctors, and Log.
• Parses and normalizes incoming data (JSON or HL7 ORU text), including unit normalization with supported conversions, checks for missing fields, and suppresses duplicates using the log.
• Classifies results as critical, abnormal, normal, duplicate, or “needs lab review” based on your thresholds.
• Generates a short, non-diagnostic note using Google Gemini, restating severity, value, unit, and required action.
• Notifies by severity:
  • Critical: sends a Slack DM (and a Twilio SMS when a phone number exists) with an acknowledgment link. It waits 15 minutes and escalates to a backup Slack contact if not acknowledged.
  • Abnormal: emails the ordering doctor via Gmail.
• Audits everything: unroutable items, delivery failures, and all statuses/messages are appended to the Google Sheets Log.
