Prevent “soft 404” SEO issues with an automated daily sitemap audit

This n8n workflow automatically fetches your sitemap.xml, samples URLs, checks each page using Snapshot Site, and then logs results to Google Sheets while sending a Slack digest of only problem URLs (or an all-clear)—with a dedicated alert if the sitemap can’t be fetched or parsed.

What this workflow does

• Runs daily at 5AM on a schedule.
• Fetches and parses your sitemap.xml via HTTP, extracts all <loc> URLs, deduplicates them, and samples up to a capped number for the day.
• Audits selected URLs with Snapshot Site (quality checks enabled), capturing HTTP status, title, headings, blank-page detection, CAPTCHA detection, and a screenshot link.
• Classifies findings into ok, soft-error, hard-error, blank, captcha, or unreachable using the returned quality/status fields plus title/H1 pattern matching.
• Appends every audited URL to a Google Sheets tab for historical tracking (tab name: “Soft 404 Findings”).
• Posts one Slack digest summarizing coverage and listing only problem URLs; if the sitemap fetch/parsing fails, it posts a sitemap-fetch failure alert and stops reporting a clean run.
