Merge two JSON datasets automatically—using AI mapping to unify fields via an n8n Webhook
The n8n Webhook AI Mapper: Merge JSON Datasets via Mapping API accepts Dataset A and Dataset B through a webhook, profiles their schemas, calls an external AI mapping API to infer field correspondences, then transforms and merges the data into a single unified dataset—returning both mapping confidence scores and a full audit report as JSON.
What this workflow does
- Receives a POST webhook request containing Dataset A, Dataset B, and optional mapping hints or a target schema.
- Validates and profiles both datasets by extracting field types and sampling rows to understand structure.
- Calls an external AI mapping API (via HTTP) with the schema profiles and samples to request suggested source-to-target field mappings.
- Normalizes mapping results into a clean mapping list with confidence scores, and falls back to heuristic field-name matching if the AI response is missing or unusable.
- Builds transformation rules from the mappings, reshapes Dataset A into the target field structure, then merges the transformed Dataset A rows with the original Dataset B rows.
- Returns a JSON response that includes the merged dataset, mapping report (statistics and low-confidence mappings), and request metadata.
Use cases
- Unifying CRM/export data where field names and types differ across systems.
- Consolidating product catalogs or user records from two JSON sources into one consistent schema.
- Building an API-style ingestion endpoint that produces traceable mapping confidence for downstream processing.
Technical details
- Nodes / components: webhook, http request, code, wait, respond to webhook, sticky note.
-
External dependency: an AI mapping/LLM endpoint over HTTP (the workflow currently shows
https://httpbin.org/postas a placeholder to replace with your real mapping API URL).
Great for: n8n users and automation engineers who need reliable JSON dataset merging with transparent mapping quality and an audit trail.
