Create podcast-style audio overviews from links or RSS with n8n + NotebookLM

This n8n workflow turns your chosen web/YouTube links (or recent RSS posts) into a downloadable Audio Overview using the useapi.net Gemini Notebook (NotebookLM) API, with an option to preview the audio in-browser.

What this workflow does

  • Starts from an n8n “Make a podcast” form submission, or optionally via a scheduled trigger to read an RSS feed and select recent posts.
  • Normalizes inputs into an episode title, up to 50 source URLs, and generation settings such as requested format/length/language, optional focus, and optional Google account email.
  • Creates a Gemini Notebook (NotebookLM) notebook through the useapi.net Gemini Notebook API.
  • Adds your sources to the notebook (batch attempt first; if Google refuses, it falls back to adding links one-by-one), and tracks any skipped sources.
  • Generates the audio asynchronously: the workflow submits an Audio Overview job to useapi.net, then polls until completion.
  • Outputs the result:
    • For form runs: shows a result page with an embedded audio player and a download link.
    • For scheduled/RSS runs: downloads the resulting .m4a and outputs it as binary data for downstream n8n steps.

Use cases

  • Generate “audio digest” episodes from a curated set of articles or YouTube links.
  • Automate weekly podcast overviews from an RSS feed without manual editing.
  • Create SaaS-ready content pipelines where the .m4a file is forwarded to storage, media processing, or publishing workflows.

Technical details

  • Integrations: useapi.net Gemini Notebook (NotebookLM) API, Google account connected to NotebookLM.
  • Authentication: create an n8n HTTP Header Auth credential using Authorization: Bearer <token>.
  • n8n nodes/logic: if, set, code, form, wait, switch—handling batching, fallbacks, polling, and output branching.
