One-click WordPress on Hetzner—plus automatic removal

This n8n workflow lets WordPress agencies and SaaS operators create a fresh Hetzner server running WordPress (Docker), MariaDB, and automatic HTTPS in minutes—then removes the project on request. Submit a form, get an emailed login, and manage DNS via Cloudflare (or use sslip.io when no base domain is configured).

What this workflow does

  • Receives a request from an n8n Form to either create a new WordPress client project or remove an existing one.
  • Validates input & generates credentials for new projects, including WordPress admin login details.
  • Builds a cloud-init installer that sets up WordPress via WP-CLI and starts WordPress, MariaDB, and Caddy using Docker Compose.
  • Uses the Hetzner Cloud API to fetch SSH keys, ensure a firewall for 22/80/443, select the cheapest matching server type for the requested RAM, and create the server.
  • Configures DNS: if a base domain is set, it creates a Cloudflare A record for the project subdomain pointing to the server IPv4; otherwise it uses an sslip.io hostname.
  • Waits for readiness by polling a one-time status file until it reports ready, fails, or times out.
  • Sends email updates: a success email with the WordPress URL and login details, or a troubleshooting email with SSH/log pointers if setup fails.
  • Removes projects by finding the Hetzner server via labels, deleting it, optionally removing the Cloudflare DNS record, and emailing confirmation.

Use cases

  • Provisioning new WordPress client projects on Hetzner with consistent HTTPS and fast delivery.
  • Decommissioning client environments safely (server + optional Cloudflare DNS cleanup) when projects end.
  • Standardizing onboarding for WordPress agencies using n8n automation.

Technical details

  • Hetzner Cloud API (create server, firewall ports 22/80/443, SSH keys, server selection by RAM)
  • Cloudflare DNS (A record for subdomains when base domain is configured)
  • Server setup via cloud-init, WP-CLI, Docker Compose, Caddy, and MariaDB
  • n8n workflow nodes: if, set, code, wait, switch, email send

Setup requirement

Create a Hetzner Cloud API token (read/write) and ensure you have at least one SSH key available in Hetzner Cloud for the workflow.
