Stop silent failures: send n8n workflow failure alerts to your webhook endpoints

This n8n workflow automatically detects when any of your monitored workflows fail and immediately notifies you via an HTTP POST to your configured incoming webhook—so agent runs don’t die quietly. You’ll get the workflow name, error message, and a direct execution link in a structured JSON payload.

What this workflow does

  • Triggers on failures using the Error Trigger node (configured through the monitored workflow’s Error Workflow setting).
  • Extracts failure context, including:
    • Workflow name and workflow ID
    • Execution ID and execution URL
    • Execution mode
    • Failed node
    • Error message
  • Skips manual test runs by checking whether the failure came from a manual test run, then avoiding alert spam.
  • Builds a structured JSON alert payload with a severity level and the extracted details.
  • Sends the alert to your endpoint by performing an HTTP POST to your webhook URL.

Use cases

  • Alert your ops or on-call tooling (e.g., Slack, Discord, PagerDuty, Opsgenie) whenever a production workflow fails.
  • Provide fast debugging context by linking directly to the failed n8n execution.
  • Reduce noise by not alerting on manual test runs while still catching real failures.

Technical details

  • Nodes/logic used: if, code, no op, sticky note, http request, error trigger.
  • Integration method: configurable incoming webhook URL (no credentials required to import).
  • Setup: create an incoming webhook URL in your alerting tool, replace PASTE_YOUR_WEBHOOK_URL_HERE, then set Error Workflow to this workflow in each workflow you want to monitor.

Bonus: This is a free sample from Payload’s n8n Production AI Agent Reliability Kit (https://payloadtools.gumroad.com/l/n8n-agent-reliability-kit), including 8 additional production-hardening workflows.
