Generate PDF datasheets from Google Sheets automatically—then archive them in Google Drive
This n8n workflow monitors your Google Sheets product catalog, sends each new row to ShipPDF to render a PDF datasheet from a template, waits for generation to complete, downloads the finished PDF, and uploads it to Google Drive.
What this workflow does
- Triggers on new products: When a new product row is added to a specified Google Sheets worksheet, the workflow starts.
- Sends product data to ShipPDF: It maps fields from the row—name, model, SKU, description, specifications, and an optional image URL—to the ShipPDF Documents API to generate a datasheet using your template_id.
- Polls until the PDF is ready: The workflow waits 3 seconds, then repeatedly checks ShipPDF document status until it becomes completed or failed.
- Downloads the generated PDF: If ShipPDF reports completion, the workflow downloads the PDF from the returned URL.
- Uploads to Google Drive: The PDF is uploaded to your chosen Drive folder with a filename based on the product name.
- Handles failures: If ShipPDF returns a failed status, the item is routed to an alert placeholder so you can add your preferred notification step.
Use cases
- Automatically generate sell sheets for newly added SKUs in your catalog.
- Keep a centralized “datasheets” library in Google Drive for sales and support teams.
- Speed up product launches by producing updated datasheets without manual PDF creation.
