Group recurring n8n production errors into one clean HTML email digest (with optional webhook)
This n8n Workflow records production workflow failures into an n8n Data Table, normalizes similar errors so they group together, and then sends a single escaped HTML digest per interval by email (and optionally via webhook). Only the delivered snapshot is marked as sent.
What this workflow does
- Captures failures: An Error Trigger receives failures from monitored production workflows.
- Normalizes fingerprints: A Code node removes changing numeric values, UUIDs, and common long ID forms from the fingerprint input so recurring issues group together.
- Hashes and stores: The core Crypto node hashes the normalized input; the Data Table stores a pending event.
- Sends hourly (or configured interval): An hourly scheduler or manual trigger reads pending events and generates one escaped HTML digest to recipients.
- Optional webhook delivery: If enabled, the digest is also sent to a webhook URL. Only row IDs from the delivered snapshot are marked as sent.
Use cases
- SaaS operations: Reduce alert fatigue by grouping the same root-cause failures instead of emailing every single execution.
-
Production incident review: Get digests at
digestEveryHours(1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, or 24) with grouped error context. - Webhook-based monitoring: Forward the same digest to an internal incident system via webhook, while keeping email as your primary channel.
Technical details
- Requirements: n8n 2.8.4, Data Tables, SMTP, and permissions to save operational failure information (no external database or community node required).
-
Workflow nodes:
if,set, code, crypto, data table, email send. - Execution links: Uses your configured instance URL for execution references in the digest.
- Note: Digest sends run sequentially.
Want grouping accuracy for environments where numeric codes are meaningful? The workflow includes guidance to adapt normalization when numeric values must be preserved.
