Turn content ideas into data-backed decisions—using HasData + OpenAI inside n8n
This n8n workflow reviews your proposed content topics by scraping sitemap-scoped pages with HasData, checking live Google SERP evidence, and using OpenAI to recommend the right next step—update an existing page, create a new one, or request review—while recording everything in Google Sheets.
What this workflow does
- Runs manually and reads your configured site, sitemap scope, query, limits, and Google Sheets spreadsheet ID.
- Prevents duplicate work by checking the “Review queue” tab in Google Sheets to skip ideas that already have an approval decision or an existing brief.
- Crawls your XML sitemap, fetches up to the configured number of same-host child sitemaps, filters URLs by your path prefix, and selects up to the configured number of pages to inspect.
- Scrapes on-page text with HasData for each selected URL, extracting the main content from your chosen CSS selector.
- Collects SERP evidence with HasData by fetching Google organic results (and related questions when available) for the same query.
- Evaluates using OpenAI by sending page excerpts plus SERP evidence to generate a structured decision with supporting rationale and next actions.
- Validates evidence consistency by confirming that evidence links and quotes align.
- Writes results back to Google Sheets by appending or updating the matching row with the decision, gaps, and a compact JSON evidence payload; in brief mode after approval, it generates and saves an OpenAI editorial brief.
Use cases
- Deciding whether to refresh an existing SEO page based on current Google SERP patterns.
- Determining whether a topic warrants a new content page versus revisions to current coverage.
- Producing a structured review request when evidence is missing or conflicting—tracked in your “Review queue”.
Technical details
- n8n nodes/workflow logic: if, set, xml, code, html, sticky note.
- External services: HasData (page scraping + Google SERP retrieval) and OpenAI (structured decision + brief generation).
