Sync Notion tasks with Google Calendar events—automatically time-block your work
This n8n workflow keeps your Notion tasks and a dedicated Google Calendar in sync. It creates, updates, or deletes calendar events based on task due dates, writes the Google event ID back to Notion, and also pushes calendar time changes back into Notion—so your schedule and your task manager stay aligned.
What this workflow does
- Polls Notion every 30 minutes to detect newly created or updated task pages in a selected Notion database.
- Normalizes each task into a flat structure (title, date/time, all-day vs timed, status, stored Google event ID).
- Skips tasks without relevant changes to avoid unnecessary updates.
- Creates, updates, or deletes Google Calendar events based on whether the task has a timed date or an all-day date, whether an existing Google event ID is present, and whether a conversion is required between timed/all-day.
- Writes the Google event ID back to Notion when it creates/recreates an event, and clears the ID when deleting/recreating to keep references accurate.
- Prevents sync loops by storing a fingerprint to ignore updates triggered by the workflow itself after writing to Notion.
- Polls Google Calendar every 30 minutes and checks updated events in the sync calendar.
- Updates Notion due dates from Google when the Google start/end differs from the task’s current date field.
- Ignores unrelated calendar events by requiring a Notion link in the event description.
Use cases
- Turn Notion task due dates into time-blocked events in Google Calendar (timed or all-day).
- Automatically keep task schedules accurate when meetings are moved in Google Calendar.
- Maintain a single source of truth for scheduling while allowing both Notion and Google to drive updates.
Technical details
- OAuth2 connections: Notion and Google Calendar
- n8n nodes/tools used: if, code, notion, switch, sticky note, stop and error
- Bidirectional sync: Notion → Google Calendar events and Google Calendar → Notion due date
- Loop prevention via stored fingerprint and description-based event filtering
