n8n Workflow: Tailor Resume & Cover Letter via OpenRouter

Turn any job posting into a tailored resume + cover letter—automatically

This n8n Workflow collects a job posting URL via an n8n form, uses OpenRouter to extract role requirements, then rewrites your resume and drafts a tailored cover letter. Finally, it saves both into a new Google Doc (and can move it to your chosen Google Drive folder).

What this workflow does

• Receives input (job posting URL + optional notes) from an n8n form.
• Downloads the job page and extracts the page body text.
• Extracts structured job details with OpenRouter (e.g., title, company, skills, responsibilities, and ATS keywords).
• Tailors your resume with OpenRouter by aligning your base resume text truthfully to the extracted requirements and target keywords.
• Drafts a specific cover letter with OpenRouter that references real accomplishments from your base resume and the job’s responsibilities.
• Creates a Google Doc titled with the role and company, inserts both documents, and optionally moves it to a selected Google Drive folder.

Technical details

• OpenRouter: used twice—(1) to extract job requirements and ATS keywords, (2) to rewrite the resume and generate the tailored cover letter.
• Google Docs: OAuth2 credentials to create and update the resulting document.
• Google Drive: OAuth2 credentials to move the created doc into a destination folder (or keep it in My Drive root).
• n8n nodes/stack: form trigger, set, html, merge, sticky note, google docs.

Setup at a glance

• Update candidate profile (paste your full base resume text).
• Add OpenRouter API credential and select it for both OpenRouter model nodes.
• Add Google Docs OAuth2 and Google Drive OAuth2; set the destination folder URL.
• Use the workflow’s form production URL to submit a job posting link.
