Automatically check cold-email compliance with Precleared—and generate compliant Gmail drafts in n8n
This n8n workflow verifies each lead’s eligibility for cold-email outreach using the Precleared API. If the lead is allowed, it automatically drafts a compliant email in Gmail—and if not, it routes the lead to a “hold back” output with the verdict, reason, and next steps.
What this workflow does
- Runs manually to process a batch of leads.
- Loads sender and compliance inputs, including sender country, company info, postal address, opt-out line, and pitch—then prepares lead fields such as email, name, company, and address source.
- Calls the Precleared API per lead to check whether cold outreach is permitted, retrieving the required footer text and a receipt ID.
- Creates Gmail drafts only for leads with verdict ok_to_email, including the required footer details and saving the compliance rule and receipt ID.
- Routes non-compliant leads to “hold back”, including the verdict, reason, suggested next step (e.g., getting an API key or buying a pack), and the receipt ID when available.
Use cases
- SaaS teams running cold outreach from CRM exports and needing compliance gating before any message is drafted.
- Automation engineers building a pipeline that turns lead lists (e.g., Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot, or a webhook) into Gmail-ready compliant drafts.
- Operations workflows where you must track compliance outcomes (verdict + reason + receipt ID) for every lead.
Technical details
- Nodes/logic: if, set, code, gmail, sticky note, http request.
-
Integrations: Precleared API via an HTTP Request (optionally using
Authorization: Bearer ...for more than the free daily checks) and Gmail Drafts for draft creation.
Setup checklist: Update sender details in the workflow, connect your Gmail account, then replace sample leads with your lead source (e.g., Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot, or a webhook).
