Automatically qualify Google Sheets leads by domain age using RDAP in n8n
This n8n workflow reads website leads from your Google Sheets, looks up each domain’s registration history via rdap.org RDAP, and writes back domain_created, years_registered, age_source, and checked_at—so you can prioritize leads based on how long their domain has been registered.
What this workflow does
- Loads all rows from a chosen Google Sheets tab when run manually.
- Extracts a registrable domain from each website value. Rows without a website are skipped.
- Avoids unreliable lookups: shared-host or IP-based websites are marked as unknown without calling RDAP.
- Checks domain registration age by calling rdap.org and extracting the registration date.
- Calculates lead-friendly metrics: computes the number of full years since registration and records the lookup status in age_source.
- Handles rate limits & errors: retries RDAP requests on 429 and 5xx (or unreachable errors) using exponential backoff up to a configured maximum.
- Updates the same Google Sheets rows (matched by row_number) with: domain_created, years_registered, age_source, and checked_at.
Use cases
- Prioritize outreach to older, more established domains while deprioritizing newly registered sites.
- Enrich lead lists in a SaaS pipeline by adding domain age fields directly to Google Sheets.
- Run scheduled or on-demand qualification checks with consistent RDAP lookups and retry logic.
Technical details
- Google Sheets (OAuth2): reads leads and writes results back to the same tab/rows.
- rdap.org via HTTP Request: fetches RDAP data for each registrable domain.
- n8n nodes: if, set, code, wait, sticky note, http request.
- Rate-limit friendly: configurable interval and exponential backoff on 429/5xx.
Ideal for n8n automation engineers and SaaS operators who want reliable, auditable domain age qualification backed by RDAP.
