Instantly rank the best Google News journalists for your pitch—built with n8n, Bright Data, and GPT-5.6
This n8n workflow pulls fresh Google News coverage for your topic and comparable companies, extracts article bylines from raw HTML, then uses OpenAI (GPT-5.6) to rank the most relevant journalists and generate tailored pitch opening angles—saving the final ranked media list to Google Docs.
What this workflow does
- Receives a form submission with your subject/beat, comparable companies, a one-line story, and a target region.
- Runs Bright Data SERP searches in parallel against Google News—one for your subject and one for the comparable companies—then combines and deduplicates results.
- Filters low-signal sources by removing wire services/social sources and prioritizing outlets that appear in both searches, selecting the top results.
- Re-fetches each shortlisted headline via Bright Data to resolve a fetchable article URL, then loads each page as raw HTML using Bright Data Web Unlocker.
- Extracts the author/byline from the article HTML (or falls back to outlet-level attribution) and compiles excerpts.
- Ranks journalists with OpenAI GPT-5.6 in a single prompt—generating a ranked list plus a tailored “opening angle” and “why” note for each entry.
- Saves results to Google Docs and shows the formatted output on the form completion page (or returns a “no coverage” message when nothing usable is found).
Use cases
- PR and comms teams identifying which journalists cover your beat and adjacent competitors.
- SaaS operators preparing evidence-backed outreach using recent Google News signals.
- Automation engineers building a repeatable “journalist targeting” pipeline in n8n.
