Real-Time Commodities Quotes in Google Sheets: Automate Now
Transform your Google Sheets into a real-time commodities trading dashboard with this powerful n8n automation workflow. Get live quotes for gold, silver, crude oil, natural gas, and other major commodities automatically updated in your spreadsheet every time you run the workflow.
What This Workflow Does
This automation reads commodity symbols (GCUSD, SIUSD, CLUSD, NGUSD, and more) directly from your Google Sheets. It then fetches the live commodities-quote Skill from GitHub and builds custom Octagon Agent prompts for each symbol. The workflow calls Octagon Agent to retrieve real-time market data, intelligently parses the response, and writes comprehensive trading data back to your sheet including current prices, price changes, daily ranges, volume metrics, and moving averages.
Use Cases
- Portfolio Tracking: Monitor your commodities investments with real-time price updates in a familiar spreadsheet format
- Market Analysis: Build comprehensive trading dashboards combining multiple commodity symbols with historical data and technical indicators
- Automated Reporting: Generate regular market reports for clients or stakeholders using live commodities data
- Risk Management: Track price movements and volatility across commodity positions for better risk assessment
- Trading Alerts: Use the data as input for further automation workflows that trigger alerts based on price thresholds
Technical Details
Built with essential n8n nodes including set, code, wait, filter, sticky note, and HTTP request nodes. The workflow integrates with Google Sheets for data input/output, connects to GitHub to fetch the commodities-quote Skill, utilizes OpenAI services, and leverages Octagon Agent for reliable real-time market data retrieval.
Setup takes approximately 5 minutes. Simply connect your Google Sheets, OpenAI, and Octagon credentials, then point the Sheets nodes to your commodities spreadsheet with a Symbol or Ticker column. Detailed configuration instructions are included in the workflow's sticky notes, ensuring smooth implementation even for complex trading setups.
