Review SEC 8-K and 8-K/A filings in Google Sheets—powered by Apify

This n8n workflow helps you maintain a live review register of official SEC 8-K and SEC 8-K/A filings in Google Sheets. It keeps company names, event item classifications, amendment evidence, and original document links together—without needing an AI service.

What this workflow does

  • Runs with Apify: One bounded Apify run supplies source records, coverage, and billing evidence.
  • Validates the dataset before delivery: The workflow checks the complete dataset before writing to Google Sheets.
  • Updates stably using source keys: Stable source keys update existing rows on repeat runs, while unobserved earlier rows remain—so your Sheet acts as a current review register, not an exhaustive historical archive.
  • Explains source window vs sample: “COMPLETE” reflects the declared source window; “CAPPED” is treated as a labeled sample.
  • Handles failures and empties correctly: Source failures stop delivery. Verified empty results create no data rows.
  • Tracks filings and amendments precisely: Each accession and registrant CIK identifies one filing. Amendments are separate 8-K/A filings, with source-supported links when available.
  • Uses official event categories: Event categories describe official item codes (not recommendations). Ticker cells remain empty when empty.
  • Does not misinterpret disappearance: A rolling-window disappearance never means a filing was withdrawn.

Use cases

  • Fund/IR teams monitoring new 8-K releases and 8-K/A amendments in a single spreadsheet.
  • Company researchers keeping an auditable review log with amendment evidence and document links.
  • SaaS operators automating periodic SEC filing reviews without AI dependencies.

Technical details

  • Apify: Uses your own Apify account and a Header Auth credential on all five HTTP nodes.
  • Google Sheets: Connect via OAuth2, create the supplied tab, and import the exact CSV header from the provided sheet-header.csv.
