Score & Review Nonprofit Grants in Google Sheets (n8n)
Automatically monitor your nonprofit grant pipeline in Google Sheets, validate and de-duplicate new opportunities, then score each grant against your organization profile—before saving a structured recommendation to your master sheet.
What this workflow does
- Triggers manually or when a new row is added to your Google Sheets Grant Queue.
- Validates required fields on incoming grants (including grant_id, organization_id, foundation_name, program_name, and status).
-
Loads your Organization Profile and existing Grant Master records, then checks for duplicates by:
- grant_id, and
- organization + foundation + program
- Flags invalid or duplicate queue rows directly in Google Sheets and stops them from being scored.
- Scores non-duplicates using signals from the Organization Profile, including priority programs, geography, exclusions—plus additional signals such as previous funder history, whether new applicants are allowed, rolling deadline handling, and invitation-only restrictions.
- Generates a recommendation summary that includes eligibility and deadline statuses, research completeness, and missing-field indicators for human review.
- Appends the final scored record to the Google Sheets Grant Master sheet and updates the queue row status to Processed.
Use cases
- Grant teams using an “intake queue” to triage new nonprofit grant opportunities in near real time.
- SaaS operators and automation engineers who need an n8n workflow to keep grant data clean, deduplicated, and consistently scored.
- Organizations that want human review only for entries with missing fields or incomplete research—while everything else is scored and logged automatically.
Technical details
- n8n nodes used: Manual Trigger, Google Sheets, if, set, code, and sticky note.
- Google Sheets integration: Grant Queue, Organization Profile, and Grant Master sheet tabs plus queue status updates.
