Send Today’s Pre-Meeting News to Gmail from Your Google Calendar (with NewsAPI) — Automatically
This n8n workflow automatically checks your Google Calendar for today’s “Meeting with …” / “Call with …” events, pulls relevant recent company news via NewsAPI, and emails an HTML digest to your recipients in Gmail before the workday begins (runs at 7:00 AM).
What this workflow does
- Runs daily at 7:00 AM to prepare a pre-meeting briefing.
- Fetches all events scheduled for today from your selected Google Calendar.
- Filters events by title: only events whose title starts with “Meeting with” or “Call with” continue; other events end with no further action.
- Extracts the company name from the meeting title and uses it as the query term.
-
Queries NewsAPI for recent English articles, using your configured:
- news age (days)
- maximum article count
- Formats results into an HTML table suitable for email.
- Sends the digest via Gmail to the configured recipient list.
Use cases
- Prepare talking points before a sales or partnership call by reviewing recent coverage about the other company.
- For customer success and account teams, send internal “who we meet today” company news to stakeholders.
- SaaS operators can keep leaders informed with an automatic daily briefing tied directly to scheduled meetings.
Technical details
- Google Calendar OAuth: read today’s events from a chosen calendar.
- NewsAPI: search for recent English articles using configurable age and max results.
- Gmail OAuth: send the HTML-formatted digest to recipients (comma-separated).
- Workflow nodes used: if, set, code, no op, gmail, sticky note.
Tip: Ensure your calendar event titles follow the “Meeting with …” or “Call with …” pattern, or update the filter and company-name extraction logic to match your naming convention.
