Track Shopify Variant Price & Availability Changes with an n8n Data Table baseline
This Shopify Variant Change Compare workflow automatically compares variant-level price and availability changes for one known public Shopify product. It stores the latest complete report in an n8n Data Table, then reuses that saved baseline on your next manual run—so you can quickly see what changed.
What this workflow does
- Validates your run inputs during a manual execution (product, currency, date) and requires explicit spending consent.
- Loads the latest complete report from an n8n Data Table, reserves one attempt, and uses a request recovery key to verify the reservation before making the API call.
- Calls a paid RapidAPI service (free workflow, publisher-owned RapidAPI) once, then validates the full API response.
- Saves the full response back to the Data Table along with updated pilot state, reads it back, and returns success.
- Establishes a baseline on first success; later successful runs include variant-level changes relative to that baseline.
- Preserves the prior report on errors (so you don’t lose your last known good state).
- No scheduled monitoring or alerts are included—runs are manual only.
Use cases
- Check whether a specific Shopify product’s variants changed in price and availability before you update listings or pricing expectations.
- Run periodic “on-demand” audits from your n8n instance without setting up continuous monitoring.
- Build an internal baseline report for e-commerce operations and compare changes over time.
Technical details
- n8n nodes/workflow components: manual trigger, set, code, data table (create/get/upsert), sticky note, HTTP request.
- RapidAPI integration: add your x-rapidapi-key as HTTP Header Auth and select it on the HTTP node.
- Compatibility: use n8n 2.40.7+ (or compatible) with Data Table support.
- Important constraint: only one execution and one workflow copy may use the history row; stop at the reserved attempt limit or saved date.
