Never miss an expiring federal contract—automatically track recompetes in Google Sheets

This n8n workflow pulls expiring federal contracts and recompete signals into your Google Sheets every week—using Apify’s Expiring Federal Contracts – Recompete Radar—so your GovCon pipeline stays focused on bids coming due in the next 3–18 months.

What this workflow does

  • Runs weekly: Every Monday, a Schedule Trigger fires an HTTP Request to an Apify Actor (Expiring Federal Contracts – Recompete Radar).
  • Targets the right time window: The Actor identifies federal contracts whose period of performance ends in 3–18 months, based on official USAspending.gov data.
  • Checks SAM.gov recompete notices: Each contract is matched against open SAM.gov notices with a confidence level: high, medium, low, or none.
  • Keeps your sheet clean: With a monitor name included in the request body, the Actor returns only new or changed records (e.g., new end date, award amount, incumbent UEI, or newly matched high/medium-confidence SAM.gov notice).
  • Writes to Google Sheets: An IF node stops on empty results. A Set node standardizes 22 columns (incumbent, UEI, value, end date, agency, NAICS/PSC, SAM.gov match + links). Google Sheets then appends or updates rows matched on id.

Use cases

  • GovCon capture managers monitoring expiring contracts and planning recompete strategy weeks in advance.
  • BD leads prioritizing accounts where SAM.gov notices indicate a likely follow-on action.
  • Small federal contractors building a lightweight federal contract tracking system without manual spreadsheet updates.

Technical details

  • n8n nodes: Schedule Trigger, HTTP Request, If, Set, Google Sheets, Sticky Note
  • Apify integration: Uses your Apify API token via a Header Auth credential (Authorization: Bearer <token>).
  • Google Sheets: Paste your spreadsheet ID and set row 1 to the 22 column names from “Pick columns.”
  • Important setup: Keep monitorName consistent between runs—this is what enables “new or changed only” results.
