Automatically triage Gmail unread emails and draft replies with Jev + OpenAI (in n8n)
Turn a noisy inbox into organized, action-ready communication. This n8n workflow monitors your Gmail unread messages every minute, uses TypeSafe AI Jev to score urgency and route emails to the right department label, and—when appropriate—uses OpenAI to generate a short Gmail draft reply while logging every decision.
What this workflow does
- Triggers every minute when a new unread email arrives in your Gmail inbox.
- Extracts key fields including sender, subject, body, and thread ID, then builds a condensed email context for downstream processing.
- Uses TypeSafe AI Jev to:
- score the email’s urgency
- estimate whether it needs a personal reply
- determine whether the sender is upset
- Routes the message to one of: Sales, Support, Billing, Partnerships, Newsletters, Spam, or a low-confidence To review path.
- Applies the matching Gmail label and records the chosen department and routing confidence.
- If Jev predicts the email needs a reply (and it is not Spam or Newsletters), OpenAI generates a short draft reply and saves it to the same Gmail thread.
- Logs email metadata and AI decisions—including whether a draft was created—into an n8n Data Table.
Use cases
- SaaS teams routing incoming support, billing, and sales requests without manual inbox sorting.
- Operators handling high email volume by automatically labeling messages and drafting responses for approval.
- Teams needing a confidence-based “To review” path for ambiguous emails.
Technical details
- Gmail trigger for new unread messages; Gmail node for labeling and creating drafts.
