Never let a late B2B invoice slip through—automate UK invoice chasing in n8n
This n8n workflow automatically checks overdue UK invoices on working days, calculates statutory late-payment interest using Bank of England base rates and GOV.UK holidays, and prepares (or sends) escalating reminder emails—logging every outcome back into an n8n Data Table.
What this workflow does
- Runs on schedule or manually—every weekday at 09:00 (Europe/London) or when triggered manually.
- Loads UK business-day rules by fetching UK bank holidays from GOV.UK and Bank of England base-rate history, using a fallback rate if the feed is unavailable.
-
Creates and manages data—it creates the
late_payment_invoicesn8n Data Table if missing, and can insert demo rows when the table is empty. - Selects only eligible invoices by skipping paid, not-yet-due, disputed, non-business, or invalid records.
- Computes overdue amounts including days overdue, applicable interest/contract rate, interest to date, and any fixed compensation where applicable, then determines the next reminder level.
-
Drafts or sends reminders—generates friendly/second/final reminder email content and either sends via SMTP or saves drafts based on
send_mode. - Writes back results to the table with reminder content, calculated amounts, reminder level, and a status note (sent, drafted, failed, or skipped).
Use cases
- Account managers needing reliable UK late invoice chasing without manual calendar calculations.
- SaaS finance ops teams escalating reminders while automatically respecting GOV.UK holiday dates.
- Operations engineers standardizing statutory late-payment interest logic in n8n.
