Track your Google Maps local ranking changes every week—automatically

This n8n workflow generates a Weekly Google Maps Ranking Heatmap using GeoGridAPI, downloads the resulting PNG, and emails you a metrics summary (plus the heatmap) via Gmail every Monday at 08:00.

What this workflow does

  • Runs on schedule: Triggers automatically every Monday at 08:00.
  • Starts a GeoGridAPI geo-grid run: Sends your configured business, keyword, grid size, radius (km), and language to the GeoGridAPI REST API.
  • Monitors progress: Polls GeoGridAPI every 20 seconds, up to 20 checks, until the grid finishes or fails.
  • Fails safely: If the geo-grid does not complete (failed or still running after the maximum checks), the workflow stops with an error.
  • Downloads results: Retrieves the completed heatmap image (PNG) from GeoGridAPI.
  • Sends a report email: Builds an HTML email including key figures such as average rank, top 3 and top 20 coverage, week-over-week change (when available), and top competitors ahead.
  • Attaches the heatmap: Sends the PNG file via Gmail to your configured recipient.

Use cases

  • Local SEO teams monitoring weekly Google Maps visibility by keyword and location radius.
  • SaaS operators managing client reporting with consistent, scheduled ranking heatmaps.
  • Automation engineers needing an end-to-end pipeline: GeoGridAPI → heatmap PNG → Gmail metrics email.

Technical details

  • GeoGridAPI REST: Uses an n8n HTTP Header Auth credential with Authorization: Bearer <your_key>.
  • Gmail: Sends the HTML email and attaches the downloaded heatmap PNG using Gmail OAuth2 credentials.
  • n8n nodes mentioned: if, set, code, wait, gmail, and a sticky note.

Setup is straightforward: add your GeoGridAPI API key, configure your business/keyword parameters, and set the recipient email in the workflow Settings.
