Monitor Wikipedia & Wikidata for Brand-Relevant Changes—Then Email OpenAI-Scored Briefs
If your brand is mentioned on Wikipedia or represented by Wikidata items, this n8n workflow automatically checks for new edits every week, compares revision history, and emails you an HTML briefing. It uses OpenAI to prioritize edits that truly change how your brand is described—so you can respond fast, without manually tracking pages.
What this workflow does
- Runs on a weekly schedule (or manually) to review configured Wikipedia article titles and matching Wikidata entities.
- Loads configuration including Wikipedia/Wikidata targets, a Wikimedia User-Agent, and recipient email addresses.
- Fetches latest revision metadata from Wikipedia and the related entity information from Wikidata.
- Compares current vs. previously stored revision IDs from an n8n Data Table, classifying each source as edited, unchanged, first look, or missing.
- Generates MediaWiki compare diffs for edited pages and identifies added/removed lines from the changes.
- Handles missing pages by running a Wikipedia search or a Wikidata entity search to surface mentions and lookalikes.
- Uses OpenAI to prioritize impact by judging whether edits meaningfully alter your brand description.
- Sends an HTML email briefing with links, diffs, missing-page results, and OpenAI’s prioritization.
- Upserts one row per watched source into the Data Table to track the latest revision for the next run.
Use cases
- Brand teams monitoring how Wikipedia describes product claims, history, or leadership.
- SaaS operators tracking reputational or factual changes affecting discoverability.
- Automation engineers deploying an ongoing “Wikipedia & Wikidata change radar” inside n8n.
Technical details
- OpenAI (Chat model) for edit-impact prioritization.
- SMTP email to deliver the HTML briefing.
- n8n workflow logic using nodes including if, set, code, no op, and merge, plus an n8n Data Table for revision history.
